To a walled garden
We broke out. Once, once only
And called it escape.
On Life and Nature
(hat-tip to Basho)
Thoughts sink into these
Rocks like the sound of crickets.
Such lonely freedom

Orion wanes west,
My breath steams in the early dark.
It's winter once more.
* * *
Lazy old willow
Hangs loose. First to gain its leaves,
Last to lose them.
* * *
Rain and gales they said
I step outside. Wind moves not
A hair on my head!
* * *
Lying in fresh air
The open window brings sound --
Others, lying out

Writing words is like
Sucking thumbs. Regression is
Like progress to me
* * *
Cold sunlight's waxen
Light is filtered through haze and
Ice in stratosphere
On Love
You opened your door
To snow flakes caught on roses
We melted for you.

No Achilles I
Am he who defends his
Home and family

Lovely-haired mantis
Promised salvation I was
Lucky to survive

Unwitting or not,
I cannot dull your silver
Barbs and razor blades.
On the Loss of a Lover
Nostalgia's steel blade
Still holds an edge. It grips this
Cliffside where we walked.

We separated
Everything yesterday
My clothes smell like home
* * *
The southerly came,
Brought evening rain. It hit me
You are out of love.
* * *
Eyes front and centre
(rules are rules). Today's the same:
You never looked back.
* * *
Always regretful
Today's the same. I miss you
And can't look forward.
* * *
You were unfaithful
To another when with me
Though I did not know.
* * *
This dried lavender
Could it be? An old keepsake
From you, now long gone.

Bodies side-by-side
Togetherness we promised
But I was alone

Strange scum scoured out from
The plughole on my return:
His come in your hair.

Here is the grassy
Glade that we found and slept in
One warm morning, love
* * *
A stone lion that
Stretched for you, now frozen in
Another's garden

My coat outlasted
Us. And they don't even make
Them like they used to.

Circled moon tonight
Would it be enough for your
Finger, ex-lover?

Circled moon tonight
Would not be enough for my
Ex-lover's finger

Hi @wildings.
I like you site. Thanks for the Haiku’s. I thought the collection “On the Loss of a Lover” very heartfelt.
Cheers,
as.aakesson.
Thanks aakesson :)
I seem to be quite addicted to haiku at the moment. For me, all poems start with one or more “insights” for lack of a better word (e.g. a metaphor grounded in a real-life moment, or an irony that strikes me in some way).
Haiku gets very close to the original idea, without any additional expansion or themeing required. As such, it’s whimsical to read, even humorous sometimes, like one-liners from an action movie!
Being so simple, it also means I can churn one out without losing sight of the original brain crack that inspired me to get out pen and paper in the first place :)
I appreciate your feedback!
